As the sport of CrossFit grows-when it comes to CrossFit competitions and fitness throwdowns-it seems there is no limit on demand.
To accommodate this infinite demand, we have seen the rise of the online qualifier in the last couple years: A great way to get more athletes involved competing, and a great way for organizers to raise additional revenue to help them run a great event.
This is exactly why Danielle Ferrante turned to SweatWorks for her Super SteelFit Championships, which for the first time this year offered an online qualifier.
The online qualifier was a huge success, Ferrante said.
“We found that it gave people an opportunity to try out a competition, even if they had never considered competing before,” she said of her qualifier that had 350 athletes compete. The top athletes from the online competition then qualified to the Semifinals at the Army National Guard Armories in New Jersey, while the finals were held on the beach in Point Pleasant.
“I think you have to anticipate some technical difficulties on the participant side,” she said. “Make a FAQ’s, if you will, that your (organizing) team can use to communicate with competitors when they ask questions.
No matter how much you communicate, many people miss e-mails and Facebook Event Page updates. So communicate rules and deadlines clearly and often, Ferrante explained.
“We had some competitors miss the deadlines even though we communicated it via many channels. You cannot communicate enough.”
As an event organizer, Ferrante had used Sweatworks for the past two years already, so when she added an online qualifier this year, it was a no-brainer: She needed SweatWorks more than ever!
“They assisted us with all the registration and back-end needs, and they always have their support team (available) when I have questions,” she said.
“Since they handle registration and scoring, it’s a smooth transition to get the scoring platform up and running. It was a seamless process.”
